We understand it's always difficult to learn something new. There's always a learning curve, a new vocabulary to learn. That's where we hope this glossary will come in handy!

Below, you'll find a very visually oriented glossary of all the terms we use regularly in this PreQuilt Help Guide and in our online YouTube tutorial videos.&#x20;

# A's

## <mark style="color:blue;">AddOn Feature or Block Library</mark>

An AddOn is a feature or block library that can be purchased for an additional price. Addons are usually collaborations that include a unique block library that corresponds to a pattern or book. Addon fees are usually a flat, one time payment.

## <mark style="color:blue;">**Block Editor**</mark>

The **Block Editor** is a separate panel that is used for creating or editing quilt blocks. Within the editor, create and design custom quilt blocks. You can control the dimensions and use grid lines to help align patch shapes.

## <mark style="color:blue;">Block Editor Canvas</mark>

The **Block Editor Canvas** is the area upon which blocks are built and designed. It starts empty (transparent) and shapes can be added onto it to build a quilt block.

## <mark style="color:blue;">Block Library</mark>

The PreQuilt **Block Library** (also called **PreQuilt Blocks**) is a collection of common, prebuilt quilt blocks that can you imported into your quilt project. This grab and go resource is meant to help you save time, since you do not need to create everything from scratch.

## <mark style="color:blue;">Block Piece</mark>

Quilt **Block Pieces** are the individual shapes that make up a quilt block, just like when piecing a block together. Block pieces represent the size and shape of the finished block and do not include seam allowances or cutting sizes.&#x20;

Common quilt block piece shapes are located below the [*Block Editor Canvas*](#block-editor-canvas) and can be used as starting points. Add quilt block pieces to the Block Editor Canvas to create a [*custom quilt block*](/pq-glossary/cs#custom-quilt-block).

## <mark style="color:blue;">Block Stash</mark>

The **Block Stash** is your personal collection of blocks that you have either created as custom blocks or imported from either the PreQuilt [*Block Library*](#block-library) or from an [*AddOn Collaborator Block Library*](https://glossary.prequilt.com/pq-glossary/as#addon-feature-or-library). Blocks in your stash can be used in any quilt (while blocks saved only in specific quilts are not saved in your block stash).


# C's

## <mark style="color:blue;">**Cell Block**</mark>

We used spreadsheets as a source of inspiration when designing PreQuilt. So, a **cell block** is one of the boxes (or cells) in the quilt. In the image, the cell block is selected, which is indicated by its blue outline around the cell.

## <mark style="color:blue;">Clone</mark>

In PreQuilt, **clone** is our term for copy or duplicate. Why did we decide to use this term? The back story is that when we were quite small, we were a bit quirkier. On one of our very early betas, we used an illustration of a sheep as our copy button, and we called it the **Clone** button. Think Dolly circa 1996. Alas, people were confused - why was a sheep here? So we changed the icon, but we kept the terminology.

## <mark style="color:blue;">Color Card (</mark>*<mark style="color:blue;">also</mark>* <mark style="color:blue;"></mark><mark style="color:blue;">Digital Color Card)</mark>

A **Color Card** is the digital reproduction of the collection of [*solid color fabric swatches*](/pq-glossary/ss#solid-color-swatch) that are offered by fabric manufacturers. PreQuilt is preloaded with digital color cards for all the major fabric manufacturers, such as Robert Kaufman's Kona color card, Art Gallery Fabric's Pure Elements, and Paintbrush Studio's Painter's Palette.

## <mark style="color:blue;">Color Randomizer</mark>

The **Color Randomizer** is a feature in PreQuilt that will randomly assign [*solid fabric swatches*](/pq-glossary/ss#solid-color-swatch) to all unlocked color tags at once. The quick access button (<img src="https://4209149054-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F6bPmBgJH7XZ5gcieNGS3%2Fuploads%2FzPsKQZlNNGsFuxkaSzPN%2F00%20button.png?alt=media&amp;token=e632cbb6-94fb-4703-b6b4-fd4f221ed354" alt="" data-size="line">) is located on the [*Toolbar*](#greater-than-toolbar) of the [*Quilt Editor*](/pq-glossary/qs#quilt-editor). The advanced access button is located on the Randomize tab and you can control what color cards or fabric pulls are used by the Randomizer.

When a color tag is locked, its linked fabric will not be randomly replaced.

## <mark style="color:blue;">Color Tags</mark>

PreQuilt developed **Color Tags** as a way to apply a fabric to a quilt block piece or part of a quilt. Color tags can be linked to both solid color swatches and printed fabric swatches.&#x20;

The action of tagging a block piece with a color tag links that fabric to that particular block piece. When the fabric used by a color tag is changed (from a solid to another solid or from a solid to a printed fabric swatch or from a printed fabric swatch to another printed fabric swatch), everything that is linked to that Color Tag will also change and be updated automatically.

In the example below, the fabric used by **Color Tag A** was changed from Kona black to Kona bright pink.&#x20;

## <mark style="color:blue;">Colorways</mark>

**Colorways** are combinations of colors that are grouped together in a collection and used in a quilt design. Each colorway variation can be saved in the Color Tag tab for later reference.

## <mark style="color:blue;">Control Panels</mark>

There are two types of control panels in PreQuilt: The Left-Side Control Panel and the central Toolbar. It's important to note that the Left Side Control Panel and Toolbar on the [*Block Editor*](/pq-glossary/bs#block-editor) are different from the ones that are on the [*Quilt Editor*](/pq-glossary/qs#quilt-editor).&#x20;

When on the Block Editor, these control panels are specific to editing and designing quilt blocks. When on the Quilt Editor, these control panels are specific to editing and designing the quilt.

### <mark style="color:blue;">-> Left Side Control Panel</mark>

The **Left Side Control Panel** has tabs that expand to reveal additional control panels for special features. To get a tab to expand, click on + sign on the bar. The other tabs will collapse.

The **Toolbar**, which is the central vertical control panel has several round buttons. These are quick access buttons that are used often.

## <mark style="color:blue;">Cornerstone</mark>

**Cornerstones** are the smaller blocks that are formed when two pieces of sashing cross one another or meet.

## <mark style="color:blue;">Custom Quilt Block</mark>

A **custom quilt block** is a quilt block that you create from scratch, piece by piece, using the [*Block Editor*](/pq-glossary/bs#block-editor). It can be saved in just the quilt or can be saved to your Block stash which is located on the Block Dashboard.

## <mark style="color:blue;">Dashboard</mark>

The **Dashboard** in PreQuilt is the main navigation page for all your custom content. There are currently 5 tabs on the dashboard: Quilts, Blocks, Fabric, Fabric Pull, and AddOns.

The **Quilt Dashboard** is the home for all your quilts - original quilts and your custom color versions of designer coloring pages. Your quilts can be organized into folders.

The **Block Dashboard** is the home for all your quilt blocks - custom blocks, imported blocks from the [*Block Library*](/pq-glossary/bs#block-library), and [*AddOn Collaborator block libraries*](https://app.gitbook.com/o/6Fz8qQccLA8HTGr0bdh3/s/6bPmBgJH7XZ5gcieNGS3/~/changes/10/pq-glossary/as#greater-than-prequilt-addon-collaborations). Your blocks can be organized into folders.

### <mark style="color:blue;">-> Fabric Dashboard</mark>

The **Fabric Dashboard** is the home for all your [*printed fabric swatches*](/pq-glossary/ps#printed-fabric-swatch-also-fabric-swatch). Printed fabric swatches can be imported directly from linked fabric shops, uploaded via your computer or imported as photographs using your smartphone. Your printed fabric swatches can be organized into folders and edited to be optimized for visualizing in your quilt.&#x20;

### <mark style="color:blue;">-> Fabric Pull Dashboard</mark>

The **Fabric Pull Dashboard** is the home for all your fabric collections, or what we like to call Fabric Pulls. Create a fabric pull by grouping solid fabrics and/or printed fabric swatches together. Your fabric pulls can be organized into folders and can be used in your quilts.

### <mark style="color:blue;">-> AddOns Dashboard</mark>

The **AddOn Dashboard** is the home for the quilt layouts and designs that accompany a collaborative [*AddOn*](https://app.gitbook.com/o/6Fz8qQccLA8HTGr0bdh3/s/6bPmBgJH7XZ5gcieNGS3/~/changes/10/pq-glossary/as#addon-feature-or-library). The associated Addon block library can be found on the [*Block Dashboard*](#greater-than-block-dashboard). To unlock an addon, purchase it from this AddOn dashboard.

## <mark style="color:blue;">Default Block Size</mark>

The **default block size** is the universal block size for the [*quilt grid*](/pq-glossary/qs#quilt-grid-also-digital-design-wall), which is set in the quilt grid settings. When the default block size is changed, it will effect all [*cell blocks*](/pq-glossary/cs#cell-block) in the entire quilt grid.

## <mark style="color:blue;">Digital Coloring Page (</mark>*<mark style="color:blue;">also</mark>* <mark style="color:blue;"></mark><mark style="color:blue;">Coloring Page)</mark>

A **digital coloring page** (also known as **coloring page**) is a Market Plan feature that allows your customers to change the colors and fabrics for one of your quilt patterns. This customization only affects their version of your quilt and enables them to preview your quilt pattern in their fabric choices. A call to action button (CTA) directs users to your online store or website to buy the pattern.

## <mark style="color:blue;">Digital Coloring Page Editor (</mark>*<mark style="color:blue;">also</mark>* <mark style="color:blue;"></mark><mark style="color:blue;">Coloring Page Editor)</mark>

The **Digital Coloring Page Editor**, or **Coloring Page Editor**, is a pop up window that will open when creating or editing a PreQuilt [*digital coloring page*](#digital-coloring-page-also-coloring-page). In this window, you can update the quilt cover image, quilt title, quilt description, call to action, and the custom URL for the coloring page. You can also control the visibility settings of the digital coloring page and add it to the PreQuilt [*Market Page*](https://app.gitbook.com/o/6Fz8qQccLA8HTGr0bdh3/s/6bPmBgJH7XZ5gcieNGS3/~/changes/11/pq-glossary/ms#market-page).

### <mark style="color:blue;">-> Quilt Image</mark>

The **Quilt Image** is the cover image for the digital coloring page and will be showcased on the Quilt information tab. It can be either a digital graphic or a photograph of the finished quilt.

### <mark style="color:blue;">-> Quilt Title</mark>

The **Quilt Title** is the name of the quilt. This will be used to identify the digital coloring page.

### <mark style="color:blue;">-> Quilt Description</mark>

The **Quilt Description** is the copy you include to share a little bit about the quilt. This can include the quilt dimensions or something about what makes the quilt unique.

### <mark style="color:blue;">-> Call to Action</mark>

The **Call to Action** button is a dropdown menu where you can select the copy that will direct customers to your quilt pattern content. Options include: Buy the Pattern, Get the Pattern and Learn More.

### <mark style="color:blue;">-> Digital Coloring Page URL</mark>

The **Digital Coloring Page URL** is your custom URL for your digital coloring page. You can customize the last portion of the URL. Usually the name of the quilt is used in the URL.

## <mark style="color:blue;">Digital Design Wall (</mark>*<mark style="color:blue;">also</mark>* <mark style="color:blue;"></mark><mark style="color:blue;">Quilt Grid)</mark>

The **Digital Design Wall** (also called the **Quilt Grid**) is the area of space that contains the rows and columns of [*<mark style="color:blue;">cell blocks</mark>*](https://app.gitbook.com/o/6Fz8qQccLA8HTGr0bdh3/s/6bPmBgJH7XZ5gcieNGS3/~/changes/6/pq-glossary/c#cell-block) where you can layout your quilt blocks. Currently, there are 3 different digital design walls: rectangular, on-point, and equilateral triangles.

## <mark style="color:blue;">Fabric Dashboard</mark>

The **Fabric Dashboard** is a central location to store and organize all your digital [*<mark style="color:blue;">fabric swatches</mark>*](#fabric-swatch-also-printed-fabric-swatch). You can also use folders to organize your printed fabric swatches.

## <mark style="color:blue;">Fabric Library Panel</mark>

The **Fabric Library Panel** is a panel that will slide out when editing a [*Color Tag*](https://glossary.prequilt.com/pq-glossary/cs#color-tags). This panel has 2 tabs: Solids and Prints. The Solids tab is preloaded with the solid color cards of most major fabric manufacturers. The Prints tab is synced with the [*printed fabric swatches*](#fabric-swatch-also-printed-fabric-swatch) you have saved on your [*Fabric Dashboard*](https://glossary.prequilt.com/pq-glossary/ds#greater-than-fabric-dashboard).

## <mark style="color:blue;">Fabric Pull</mark>

A **Fabric Pull** is a collection of solid and/or printed fabric swatches grouped together. Fabric pulls can be curated by yourself or recreated in PreQuilt from another fabric collection.

## <mark style="color:blue;">Fabric Swatch (also Printed Fabric Swatch)</mark>

A **Fabric Swatch**, also called a **Printed Fabric Swatch**, is a digital image of fabric that can be imported into PreQuilt and applied to block designs in order to preview it. Many fabric manufacturers have digital fabric swatches available to the public on their website.


# G's

## <mark style="color:blue;">Gridlines</mark>

**Gridlines** are light blue guidelines that are only visible while editing or creating a quilt block in the [*<mark style="color:blue;">Block Editor</mark>*](/pq-glossary/bs#block-editor) panel. There are both horizontal and vertical grid lines that will equally divide the horizontal or vertical space in relation to the number of gridlines selected.&#x20;

In this example, there are 5 horizontal grid lines and 4 vertical gridlines that create equally divided rectangles in the block area.

## <mark style="color:blue;">Link(ing)</mark>

The term **Link** or **Linking** refers to buddying or associating a block piece to a [*<mark style="color:blue;">Color Tag</mark>*](https://glossary.prequilt.com/pq-glossary/cs#color-tags). Once a piece is linked to a color tag, the block piece will automatically update to show the most current color being used by the Color Tag.

## <mark style="color:blue;">Lock(ed)</mark>

The term **Lock** or **Locked** refers to the process of locking a color tag so that its fabric will not be changed by the [*Color Randomizer*](/pq-glossary/cs#color-randomizer). If a color tag is locked, the fabric linked to it will not be randomly replaced when the Color Randomizer feature is used. Only unlocked color tags will change.

The **Magic Quad** is a feature that takes the design from the top left quadrant of a quilt and will mirror it as a group horizontally into the trop right quadrant of the quilt. It will then also mirror the entire top half of the quilt vertically onto the bottom half of the quilt.&#x20;

A **Printed** **Fabric Swatch**, also called a **Fabric Swatch**, is a digital image of fabric that can be imported into PreQuilt and applied to block designs in order to preview it. Many fabric manufacturers have digital fabric swatches available to the public on their website.

The **Quilt Editor** is the separate window that is used for creating or editing the entire quilt. Within the quilt editor, you can control the quilt grid dimensions (or digital design wall), manage the quilt's color tags, place blocks onto the quilt grid (or digital design wall), and manage border and binding settings.

The **quilt grid** (also called a Digital Design Wall) is the area of space that contains the rows and columns of [*<mark style="color:blue;">cell blocks</mark>*](https://app.gitbook.com/o/6Fz8qQccLA8HTGr0bdh3/s/6bPmBgJH7XZ5gcieNGS3/~/changes/6/pq-glossary/c#cell-block) where you can layout your quilt blocks. Currently, there are 3 different quilt grids: [*rectangular*](#rectangular-grid)*,* [*<mark style="color:blue;">on point</mark>*](#on-point-grid), and [*equilateral triangles*](#equilateral-triangle-grid).&#x20;

Once a new quilt has been set to a quilt grid type, it cannot be changed. Create a new quilt to switch quilt grid types.

The **Rectangular Grid** is a collection of cell blocks that are organized in rows and columns that are set at a 90 degree angle.
